Dear people who think autism should be cured.
inflateablefilth:
I don’t want to be ‘cured’. Ever. I am fine as I am. Yes, my autism causes me a fuckton of problems. It really does. I am bullied, I am taken advantage of, people try and hug me if I go non-verbal, I am stared at if I don’t suppress the urge to stim and walk on tiptoes… it makes my life incredibly hard. Actually, that’s not right. It’s not really the autism that causes the bulk...

Conversations I wish I didn't have to ever have...
youneedacat:
I’ve been feeding disability-related books to a guy who works with me. He reads if there’s nothing else to do. He’s quite an avid reader in general. So I figured since he’s sometimes getting paid to sit around and read I might as well make it educational.
But I had no idea the kind of ideas that lurk inside him. That seem to require un-educating.
“Reading this woman’s work was so…...

"Mild disabilities"
cpmeanscrazyperson:
I don’t know what the “medical definition” or the “educational definition” of a mild disability is, but I bet I could come up with the “real life” definition.
Having a mild disability means:
People telling you that you need help when you’re trying to be independent.
People telling you to be independent when you need help.
People saying “you can do anything you put your...

There was this older woman in front of me making her way down the steps with a little difficulty and so the nearby train employee (is that what you call them?) offered to help her and take her luggage. Things that are butts: Supermarket Courtesy...
nothingbutsurrender:
IDK how much this is a thing elsewhere, but UK supermarkets often have a number of wheelchairs available for people to use while onsite.
Thing is, they’re the flimsiest, shonkiest, badly abused crap imaginable a lot of the time. About the only thing I can say for them is that they’re lighter and therefore easier to self propel than the standard issue Red NHS Tank chair.

Woman: Can I have birth control?
Government: No.
Woman: I got pregnant because I didn't have birth control and I don't want the fetus. Can I have an abortion?
Government: No.
Woman: I gave birth to my child but since I wasn't expecting it, I can't afford daycare. Can I have help paying for it?
Government: No.
Woman: Well, why can't I have birth control?
Government: Because. Sex isn't for recreation.
Woman: It can help regulate my period and benefit me in other ways.
Government: Too bad.
Man: For no reason other than for recreational sex, may I have birth control?
Government: Do you have a penis?
Man: YES, YES I DO!!
Government: WELL HOWDY, VALID CITIZEN. You can buy condoms by the dozens. Here, here's a pack of special condom for "His Pleasure." Oooh, these come in different colours and flavours. Here, try these. They have ribs on them. And this one glows in the dark!! LOL OMG DICK LIGHTSABER!!
Government: But seriously, you're a man. You can do what ever you want.

There’s a new prenatal test in the U.S. called Maternity 21, used to determine whether or not your child will be born with Down Syndrome. Living with the less obvious

Another example of discrimination that I have encountered a great deal is people’s response after explaining to them why you have extra time and rest breaks during exams. There are two types of response, either “you’re so lucky I wish I had extra time” or “Oh your ‘joint pain’, that’s a good excuse do you think it’ll work for me?”, and they assume that the chance of my hand joints...

Please Understand...
paradoxxed:
Please understand that being disabled/sick doesn’t mean I’m not still a human being. I have to spend most of my day being very careful what I do, and if you visit I might not seem like much fun to be with, but I’m still me stuck inside this body. I still worry about school and work and my family and friends, and most of the time I’d still like to hear you talk about yours too.

The doors you can get, they fall over themselves, and you, rushing to open. The ones that you can’t get, they just stand there and gawp at you struggling or ignore you.

Abortion is a woman’s CAF’s choice! They should be able to abort any baby!

Pro-choice movement: Abort! Abort!
