You lot are good at making people apologise for being ableist and stuff. Thus, I have a challenge for you. BBC3 (TV channel over in Britain, but then you all probs know about the Beeb) just decided it would be a good idea to replace ‘r*****ed’ with ‘autistic’ as a form of censoring (how...

There are actual doctors besides myself.
askbashir:
Today I arrived at the Medbay and found myself almost always with a patient. Nothing particularly happened today to cause such an inflex. It appears that some people forget that I while I’m the CMO and almost always to be found in the Medbay, I am not in fact the only physician on DS9.
Also, several of the minor injuries people held off on reporting could have been treated easily...

This was one of the most disappointing elements to me, because ATLA was a very feminist series that carefuly avoided a lot of common sexist pitfalls while creating a large and varied cast of empowered women who could choose to embrace or reject femininity to any degree without being treated as less for it. It wasn’t perfect, but it did a damn good...

[TW: This post talks about ableism, rape, sexual assault]
I’m going to talk about ableism, why it’s a problem and why I want to fight against it. Of course this is a personal thing for me. I’ve experienced it and I won’t pretend to speak for anyone else or their views or experience. Their disability is their experience. This is me talking for me.

Dealing with Name Change on Facebook for Trans*...

It has come to my attention that facebook has updated their policy about names and the ability to change your name on facebook. You now need a legal goverment issued photo identification to change your name on Facebook. Facebook now requires you to use your legal name on Facebook and will not allow you to change this without proper documentation.

on the reclaiming of the word "crip"
thought-:
Erm. So. This is probably not going to endear me to a lot of people, but.
The reclaiming of the word crip by disabled people within academia and in social justice circles is kind of getting on my nerves. For a couple of reasons.
A: It’s being used as a catch-all for anyone with any sort of disability, and I am really really not sure if it’s everyone’s word to reclaim. Personally, when I...
