Secret #7 My Thoughts on Transableism
I get it. I really do. You feel like you were born into the wrong body, like you should be [disability]. That’s fine. Go around in a wheelchair or crutches or whatever.
But don’t pretend you know what the lifestyle is like. What the ableism is like. You haven’t grown up with it, haven’t had your choices taken away, haven’t been totally screwed over.
You live in an able-bodied body. Nothing will erase the privilege you have for that.
So. Transabled people of the world. Be transabled all you like, but don’t pretend you’re actually disabled or know what it’s like.
