Dear everyone who calls me, or anyone with a disability, an "inspiration" ,

First off, thanks… I guess? I understand you have the best intentions and say it with a full heart, but come on…

I get on the city bus .. I get called an inspiration. I get an A in school.. I get called an inspiration. I have friends and go out into the world, I am an inspiration. I live, I’m an inspiration. I roll out side of my house, and I am some heaven-sent creature to come bring joy to the world.

NO. SHUT UP.

I do not want to be acknowledged for the little shit I do. If anyone else “normal” went out into the world & did all of that ^ , they would not be noticed at all. But since I’m in a wheelchair, its a shocker to actually like, move, right? It just shows the low standards society has for people with disabilities. It really shows how people see us as the “weak members” of society and should be applauded for doing normal everyday activities.

Which is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

And then there is the old, “If the girl in the wheelchair can do it, so can you!” I don’t want to guilt you into becoming a better person. Unless I actually do something amazing, not just living.

I would be honored to be your inspiration … IF I DID SOMETHING INSPIRATIONAL! NOT for just living!
