Flutterfly Invasion - yesterday i went to get a haircut. i DROVE myself there, got in my chair, completely by myself, popped the curb (no a.d.a. ramp which isnt that big of a deal) and went inside opening the door myself. i got INTO the barber chair that rotates freely with no problems, and paid for my haircut with a hundred dollar bill i got working AT MY JOB. and after i did ALL THIS WITH NO PROBLEM, the lady in the back of the store literally RUNS to the front to "help me with that door". i said no im fine i got it. and she said I INSIST. i sat there starring at her waiting for her to leave for about a minute. THEN SHE LEAVES AND UTTERS THE WORDS THAT I HATE "cripple!!". im still pist about it. i can open my own fucking door. GET THAT!?!?!?

What is it about people and doors with wheelchairs?

The doors you can get, they fall over themselves, and you, rushing to open. The ones that you can’t get, they just stand there and gawp at you struggling or ignore you.

Guess what, we can deal with doors, there are thousands of the fuckers everywhere you look, and most of the time there isn’t someone leaping into the way to open it for you. If we weren’t any good at doors we’d never be able to get anywhere.

It’s the same phenomenon I’ve encountered time and time again: When you don’t need help, everybody offers to help, but when you DO need help no one offers.
