CRIPPLES DO NORMAL SHIT LIKE DRIVE AND GO BOWLING AND GO TO PARTIES. We’re not here to ~inspire~ you or motivate you to get off your own ass. Our lives are not tragedies that you can twist to make you feel better about yourself.
Cripples Making Really Stupid Inspirational Porn of Themselves Meme, three two one go

[This cripple can still study for finals! God bless! Never give up!]
Being disabled, like being nondisabled, is nothing special. It’s a fact of life. Some people have impairments and other people do not. What people choose to do with their lives varies widely depending on who they are, and we should be focusing on what people are actually doing, which values they embody, how they carry themselves, rather than on an aspect of their identities which comprises only one part of their humanity. Disabled people aren’t inspiring simply because they have impairments, but disabled people who do amazing things most certainly can be inspiring because of what they’re doing.
My everyday life in which I do exactly the same things as everyone else should not inspire people, and yet I am constantly congratulated by strangers for simply existing.

Let’s get something straight guys. A disabled person just doing dy to day things is not inspiring. A disabled person just doing day to day things is not inspiring. A disabled person just doing day to day things is not inspiring.
Like oh my god. They’re just living their life. What I hear when you spout that shit is “congratulations to them they didn’t get so pissed off at their disability they killed themselves.” A disabled person living is just that, a disabled person living. Please stop. They are not your little baby special snowflakes who need to be congratulated just because they didn’t kill themselves, or otherwise give up on life and living. They are people who deserve and need your understanding and support as they live in a world that was not built for them.
Amen!
Preach it!
Because apparently this needs to be said.
Oscar Pistorius IS NOT COURAGEOUS. HE IS NOT INSPIRATIONAL (beyond the usual “Wow, Olympic athlete, I could never do that). HE IS AN ATHLETE. LIKE EVERY OTHER ATHLETE AT THE OLYMPICS. He is not extraordinary or “special”. HE. IS. A FUCKING. ATHLETE!!!!!!!!!
The statement “the only disability in life is a bad attitude” puts the responsibility for our oppression squarely at the feet, prosthetic or otherwise, of people with disabilities. It’s victim blaming. It says that we have complete control of the way disability impacts our lives. To that, I have one thing to say. Get stuffed.
A woman patted me on the arm and said “I see you on the train every morning and I just wanted to say it’s great. You’re an inspiration to me.”
Should I have said “you too”? Because we were doing exactly the same thing; catching public transport to our respective places of employment. I was just doing it sitting down. Should I have pointed out that, in many ways, that requires less effort, not more?
